Events
The Lord’s Taverners Ireland has run a number of highly successful fundraising and social events since its inception. We believe that it is important that we provide our members with an opportunity to take part in enjoyable sporting and social occasions which also support the charitable and developmental work of the Taverners in Ireland.
We have already held a number of events including:
To date we have held several enjoyable and successful tribute lunches to acknowledge various individuals. We paid tribute to the work of Alan Lewis and Adi Birrell on behalf of Irish cricket and a dinner to mark the 40th anniversary of Ireland’s win over the West Indies in Sion Mills at which we also made special presentations to Kyle McCallan and Roy Torrens for their fantastic contribution to Irish cricket.
A tribute lunch for Des Cashell and Cecil Geelan in recognition of outstanding contribution to the community was held in the St Stephens Green Hibernian Club and in consecutive years in the Westbury Hotel we have honoured Ollie Campbell & Fergus Slattery, Liam Brady & John Giles, Ciaran Fitzgerald & Roly Meates and Donal Lenihan, Noel Murphy & Jim Neilly.
The highlight of each Lord’s Taverners Ireland calendar year is the annual Christmas Lunch when we have had the great pleasure of presenting eleven very worthwhile charities with specially adapted minibuses.
We were also delighted to make donations to:
As well as donating specific adapted pieces of equipment
to individuals with additional needs.
Over the years we have also purchased sports equipment to the value of €10,000 for the Rebel Wheelers in Cork, a multi-sports club for youngsters with additional needs and made a significant contribution towards the costs of a sensory room at St John of God School in Islandbridge.
On top of this we have continued to part fund the Cricket Leinster Table Cricket programme for young people with disabilities.
